So this guy has been begging us to hit the slopes for the past month. With the move in November, the holidays in December and getting settled in January, we finally managed to agree to a ski day in February. While we were going to go a couple of weekends ago, we realized that Ema's boots didn't fit anymore and of course last weekend a doosy of snowstorm hit.
On Saturday, we finally had everything we needed to make a day of it! Newish boots and skis for Ema. Newish skis for Caleb--he had been using the last pair since he learned to ski when he was six. And nothing newish for Craig or I. Well maybe some newish food for lunch!
We had a great day! While the weather was a bit questionable at home--lots of fog and drizzle, by the time we headed up the mountain pass, the sun was shining and the temps were in the upper 30's to mid 40's. Lots of sunscreen needed to prevent blisters...a story I don't care to rehash thank you very much. Let's just say, I certainly didn't win the Mom-of-the-Year award on that ski day!
Ready to hit the slopes!
My Fab Fam!
What beauty!
I told you....I don't like the blues...green's for me please!
A break for lunch...
Of course the drive home meant we had to head back into the fog and drizzle.
By the time we reached the road that leads home we could only see a few feet ahead. It was a bit eery, but the memories we made were worth it!

So Here It Is...
So here it is...1:35 a.m. A likely hour to be sitting here at my computer. I should be sleeping I say to myself. I should be getting some much needed rest, so that I am not cranky with my 23 students that are awaiting my arrival to brighten their days with a big smile and a hug and fill them with knowledge. I should be laying my head on my oh so comfy pillow dreaming sweet nothings about who knows what!
But, no. I am here. Sitting at my computer.
I really have nothing to share. Just thought I needed to post this so that when I print my blog out this year I will remember that at one point in my life I suffered from sleep deprivation!
It all started back when I was pregnant with my first child. The wee hours that I would wake up and start to wonder what it would be like to be mom.
Then, it was the 2 am feedings.
Then it became the 2 am worries...which I believe it still is.
I was at church this past week and our weekly sermon and the intertwining music was all about letting go of those worries and given them to our Maker. Perhaps God is giving me an opportunity to practice what He is trying to teach me. I am a stubborn one , though, as I sit hear typing away. I am certain He is looking down upon me, or sitting next to me for that matter with His hand on my shoulder saying: "Stop typing dear child. Give your concerns to Me and not this post. Lay your head on your nice comfy pillow and shut your eyes, so that you can dream sweet nothings about who knows what. Let Me take care of tonight. For tomorrow will have plenty of other things that need to be taken care of and I will be right there for you to help you through whatever you encounter. Sleep, my friend."
So with that...I will go back to bed now!
I hope you aren't awake at 1:46 in the morning reading this post, because if you are, you too, need to give your concerns to Jesus!

The Croupy Cough Update
A huge thanks to all of you for your support as we waited to find out the the explanation for Caleb's recurring croup. The surgery was very successful in determining that his insides look great and the only explanation for this horrible sounding cough and the feeling like he can't get enough air when he gets this cough is simply that his little body needs to grow. The doc felt confident,as did we, after we saw the photos of a very clean throat with absolutely no scar tissue, that no further action needed to be taken at this time. Allow me to spare you the visual by not sharing the photos she took while taking a closer look--kind of gross for us non-doctor types!
No wheel chair needed to exit the hospital as long as he agreed to hold onto his dad! By the time we got to the car, he said he would have preferred the wheelchair. Not sure I believed him!!

One Great Kid
I love that Ema is getting older. Dont' get me wrong, I miss the days when she was little enough to sit on my lap and enjoy a great story. And I wouldn't mind returning to the time when she was shorter than me. But I must admit that this 13 year old beauty continues to amaze me with her zest for learning and her ability to take life in stride. She doesn't always agree with me and she doesn't always smile for the camera and she doesn't always like to be in the same room as me any longer, but she is still my angel. One of the gifts that God has given me to see Him more closely. I cherish her for her ability to speak her mind and to help me understand things in a new light. Thank you, dear one, for simply being you. Beautiful you.

Croupy Cough Update
Yesterday we finally had the follow-up visit with the ENT specialist for Caleb regarding the croupy cough he had over the holidays. Of course, after I pondered this a little longer, I began to realize this is generally how his cough sounds every time he gets a nasty cold, so I didn't give it much more thought.
That was until yesterday.
Initially we thought we'd get to go to the ENT office here in town, but it turned out the only pediatric doc that specializes in these types of problems no longer worked in the office upstairs from our pediatrician. She has since moved her practice to Denver. While the drive to Denver was a bit inconvenient, it was okay. We'd make a day of it. Have lunch, do some shopping, enjoy each other's company, etc! We invited Nana, since Craig couldn't get the day off. The more the merrier! Truth be told, I really didn't want to drive in downtown Denver without a little adult moral support. Not that Caleb wouldn't have been enough, but he's just not quite old enough to calm my nerves about driving in crazy Denver.
Amazingly, the drive was so smooth and shockingly, we found a parking spot with no problems at all. Granted I had to parallel park, but fortunately, I've gotten much better at this with age. Another plus of being in my forties!
As for the appointment, well it turns out that because Caleb is so healthy--no asthma issues, no snoring problems, no swelling of the tonsils, no history of repeated cases of strep, no severe breathing issues except for when he gets a cold, the doc needs to have a better look at what is going on. And of course she can't do this without operating.
WHAT??!!
WAIT!!
This was supposed to be a routine visit. In and out. Here's the problem and here's how to fix it when it happens again.
Apparently, the doc needs to be able to see deeper into the throat to rule out what is causing the reason for the barking cough that Caleb gets. She suspects it is probably that the opening is just too small and that it is something he needs to grow into. Hopefully by 12 or 13. If this ends of being the case, then he gets to come home the same day. However, because he had surgery for pyloric stenosis when he was a baby, he could have scar tissue from when they intubated him for the procedure. Or he might have a cyst that is causing the opening to be so small. In this case, she indicated that she would remedy the problem right then and there, but he would need to remain in the hospital overnight for observation.
Ughh...no one likes to see their children sick. Especially when they have to go to the hospital. But God is Great! In fact, earlier in the the morning while taking the kids to school, we happened across the song, One Great God. We commented on all the wonderful things we have in life and were giving thanks.
Isn't it amazing how in one instant our world can be turned upside down. But no worries. The best part is knowing that God is near. We know He will be present throughout the whole procedure and protect us from all things. Just as He is present each and every moment of our lives. And the doc is great! She was so good at explaining what was going on and what she would be doing during the procedure. Of course we are concerned, scared, worried, and filled with fear. But one thing we can hold onto is that our God has great plans. Plans for good and not for evil to give us a future and a hope. (Jer: 29:11) We do not need to be afraid when we allow Him to be in control.
