Another Snow Day

I thought is was spring. I should have known when we had 60-70 degree days in February that our winter would last well into April. Today, Craig and I took the day off to enjoy some time together, and go on a field trip to Denver with Caleb. Of course, Mother Nature had a very different idea. It ended up being a snow day; although, I am not quite sure why since the snow didn't affect the roads until about 1:00 this afternoon. Regardless,we have enjoyed a relaxing day with both of our kids. The best part for them is Craig decided to let them watch the first Star Wars movie. Caleb is having a Star Wars themed party next week for his birthday, so we decided it was time to let him watch the movie. They enjoyed it very much. Especially the droids! Who doesn't love R2D2 and C3PO?! Caleb still loves the bad guys, but he was glad when the death star was destroyed! Kids...gotta love how they want to like the bad guy, but are overjoyed when the good guys win!

A New Look

This is the 2nd time Ema has given the gift of her hair to a company who makes wigs for cancer patients. The first time she was in 2nd grade. It took a little over two years, but she was able to grow it out long enough to do it again. What a wonderful gift to give someone. Ema you are our angel! And we love your new look!

A Relaxing Break

The kids and I have had the week off for spring break. It has been such a nice reprieve from the busyness of our lives. I am so grateful for the time off. We've been enjoying time catching up on some reading. Ema set a lofty goal of reading The Yearling during her break. Caleb is enjoying his collection of Star Wars books. Although he read a book on the brain and found it to be extremely fascinating! I wanted to catch up on some home projects including sewing an Easter outfit for Ema. It turned out much cuter than I had anticipated. She probably won't be able to wear it for a while, since we've experienced a minor blizzard.

The kids were so excited to see the snow begin to fall. They couldn't wait to go sledding, build snow forts, try out skiing in the front yard, play with their friends and of course have ample amounts of hot cocoa with marshmallows! They spent about 2 hours on Thursday and about 4 hours on Friday playing and having fun. Oh the joys of childhood!




While we still have the weekend to enjoy, the offical week of spring break is nearing its end. It has been a wonderfully, relaxing week, but we do look forward to getting back school and work.

Thankful

Sometimes when we feel like life is a little overwhelming maybe we need to take a step outside of ourselves and remember to thank God for giving us life.

How blessed I am...

to not have to rush to get ready for work everyday.

to be able to volunteer in my children's classrooms.

to be able to meet my husband for lunch and enjoy a moment alone!

to be able to shop for a new sweater.

to be able to sit back relax and enjoy a refreshing glass of water.

How blessed I am to live this life that at times can feel overwhelming, and yet be so enjoyable to live.


For these things I am...

thankful.

A Little Night Skiing

We have been known to do some crazy things as a family. Like drive 2 hours for lunch at one of our favorite burrito joints in Fort Collins or to try a hotdog at the restaurant shaped like a hotdog. Taking a Sunday drive just for fun and hiking through gorgeous canyons we had no idea that existed in our own city, as well as, surrounding areas. Our latest winter crazy is to drive six hours to ski for three. We found a small little resort outside of Grandy, CO where they offer night skiing for quite a bargain. Our kids are still learning the basic skills, so what better way to get in some practice. It's cheap and the kids don't get so tired, because it's only a few hours. Last year it was free and the snow was great. This year has been a little different. It's a mere $10, but the snow has not been quite so good. Last night it was like skiing on a sheet of ice. It was a little frustrating, but the kids still had a great time. We even challenged them to see if they could keep up with us from the top to the bottom without stopping. (I bribed them with a chocolate shake from McDonalds.) Wow! I couldn't believe how quickly they made it. Emaleigh said, "Well, I really wanted that chocolate shake." I thought I might be on to something, so I decided to see if it might work. Emaleigh has gotten into a fairly bad habit of skiing with her legs too far apart. So I bribed her again. This time I told her I would increase her allowance by a buck. It worked! I bribed her with another buck to see if she could side stop and make snow on my skies. It worked! Amazing what a little incentive will do for the skiing skills!


Is this really called night skiing?
